A doctor who carries out the examination procedures specified in the terms of service within three months of inviting a patient for examination who has been newly accepted onto the doctor's personal list will be eligible for a registration fee.
If the examination procedure is carried out more than three months after the date of the patient's acceptance, the health authority will still pay a fee if it is satisfied that the doctor carried out the procedure as soon as possible, and had made all reasonable efforts to do so within three months of the patient's acceptance but was prevented by factors beyond his or her control.
When a doctor succeeds to a practice vacancy, or otherwise becomes responsible for a significant number of new patients within a short period, he or she may apply to the health authority for permission to defer the obligation to invite patients for a registration check for up to two years.
No fee is paid for:
• a child under five years of age at the time of joining the list
• a patient who immediately before joining the list was a patient of a partner, and who participated in a 'registration' consultation during the 12 months prior to the date of acceptance
• an examination carried out more than 12 months after the date of invitation for examination
Claims should be submitted on form GMS4. The health authority may check with patients that registration checks have been carried out.
